Welcome to the Indonesian Speech and Story Telling Contest 2017!

The Contest is held in light of the upcoming 72nd commemoration of Indonesia’s Independence Day on 17 August 2017. The Contest is aimed to provide a sound perspective and deepen knowledge about Bahasa Indonesia as a mean to communicate and cooperate among different nations.


Speech Contest – “The Importance of Studying Indonesian Language”

Story Telling Contest – “Indonesian Folk Story”


  • University student and public
  • Non-Indonesian citizen, non-Indonesian or Malay native speaker
  • Age 18 to 27 years old
  • Never stays in Indonesia or other Malay speaking countries (Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam) more than 6 months

How to participate:

  • Fill in the application form here
  • Write an original script/speech or Indonesian Folk Story in Bahasa Indonesia in double space on A4 HVS paper
  • Practice and record your speech (7 minutes to 10 minutes’ max)
  • Submit your application form together with your script/story, copy of passport, student ID/photo ID, Photo size 4×6, and CV on 15 May 2017 the latest to email

The Consulate General will announce the finalists on 19 May 2017 through its website. Perform your speech or story telling on 23 May 2017, 6pm to 9pm, at the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia, 134 Adelaide Terrace, East Perth 6004.

The Consulate General will select two winners from Western Australia. The name of the winners will be submitted to the Embassy of Indonesia in Canberra for further selection. Selected winners by the Embassy will represent Australia to attend Independence Day at the Presidential Palace and other visit programs (15 to 20 August 2017).
